Affordable Housing Strategy

In the summer of 2020, a panel was struck by the Government of Alberta to begin work on reviewing the province’s affordable housing system. The Affordable Housing Review Panel engaged key stakeholders and applied its diverse expertise to identify ways the Government of Alberta could better support housing for Albertans in need, balancing financial sustainability with growing demand.

The recommendations of the Affordable Housing Review were compiled into a consultant-led final report: Final Report of the Alberta Affordable Housing Review Panel, October 5, 2020.

The findings of this report were adopted into the Government of Alberta’s Stronger Foundations initiative, which targets to increase the total number of affordable households in Alberta by 25,000 over the next 10 years.

APHAA is working in consultation with the Ministry of Alberta Seniors and Housing to identify how best to ensure capacity building mechanisms are in place so that Alberta’s public housing and non-profit housing leaders can respond to new models and approaches that will support housing program and service transformation in Alberta.
